In the 1990s, the ministry of education implemented the modernization of academic learning and promoting higher education. The board of directors recognized that education should be firmly rooted at an early age, thus they decided to step into early childhood education. With an eye to assist children in adapting to a never-ending cycle of challenges, the board of directors is determined to instill critical self-learning capabilities in them.
In August of 1995, “Cornell American School” (our former self) was established at 15 Zhong-pu 2nd street in Taoyuan district, Taoyuan City. Our Preschool and Elementary school departments formally recruited the 1st batch of students around that time. The school took on a small-classroom approach, and had great a diversity of courses. Our school also offered a bilingual learning environment. These three elements became the founding principles on which the school was established. We introduced a lively, non-traditional method of learning, while stressing the importance of recognizing individualism among students. Our school also maintained a balance in academic learning and extra-curricular activities. We believed that the bilingual environment spiked the curiosity of our students, and nurtured their self-learning capabilities. While others arguably pursued a more traditional method of knowledge acquisition, our school dared to be different and established ourselves as a facility to inculcate self-learning capabilities in students.
With academic continuity in mind, the board of directors initialized a plan to expand the school to junior high school education since 2005. With the pressing need to accommodate our expansion, a new campus was sighted and acquired. Finally, in June of 2007, the construction of our new campus commenced (current campus). Our school had its grand opening in February of 2009. The brand new campus and facilities undoubtedly played a postive part in accelerating students’ academic learning that year and henceforth.
In August of 2012, under the incessant labor of the Board of directors, the school was finally approved to officially transition from its Preschool and elementary departments into an uninterrupted K-9 program which offered a continuous course from Elementary through Junior High school. In 2016, the Elementary and Junior High school departments simultaneously started recruiting students, giving the school a huge boost in terms of both esteem and vigor.
Starting in 2015, Cornell reactivated its International Travel Learning program, and signed an academic cooperation agreement with Golden Beach State School in Queensland, Australia. The goal was to strengthen the student exchange learning program established by both schools. The annual trips made to and from our school no doubt proved to be a highly anticipated event, which served not only to expand the horizons of students, but also accumulated treasured memories in them.
Having been established for over twenty years, we pride ourselves in not getting caught up in incessant competition and a never ending pursuit of grade comparisons at the expense of our students. Rather, we encourage our students to try out new things, and explore the world without being afraid of making mistakes. Whilst providing an abundance of academic resources for our students, our school is also committed to helping kids cultivate a life-long interest in learning, retain a passion for acquiring knowledge, and attain self-fulfillment.
